Editor’s Note: Responding to Censorship

There has been a recent outcry about our Top 10 article, “Making Your SSI Last” being briefly taken down, and we want to clarify our stand with the First Amendment: freedom of press. The Buff and Blue has the highest priority in providing a full spectrum of quality publication that is both the voice of students and accurate of Gallaudet life.  I am to emphasize that this is not an act of censorship by either The Buff and Blue or the Gallaudet administration.

We were advised to have it taken down for further investigation when it first caused a controversy. Upon examination, they found that the article had no credible threat, as the article was purely satirical. This particular piece of information is now noted as a disclaimer on the article. After we concluded that, this article has been immediately made public again for our avid readers.

I apologize to those who were disappointed in seeing the article gone with no explanation. Also, I want to thank everyone who sent in an e-mail expressing opinions on this temporary investigation. The magnitude of the responses we received has further assured me that The Buff and Blue will always strive for the best and most truthful publication.

For future reference, I want to emphasize that any content that is categorized under Extras, including our columnists, are purely opinion and is designated to appeal to our target audience: college students. They are not intended to reflect the views of The Buff and Blue, nor Gallaudet University.

If you feel dissatisfied with any of our future articles, I would recommend for you to contact me at Alyssa.Romano@gallaudet.edu. If you still feel unheard, contact our Faculty Advisers: Robert Weinstock at Robert.weinstock@gallaudet.edu and Sharon Pajka at Sharon.pajka@gallaudet.edu. They have also recently been added to our staff page. We thank you for your continued patronage, and for your dedication to The Buff and Blue.

Kudos for standing by your writer’s article… which was hilarious, by the way.
